About Christine Goodner
Christine Goodner is a Suzuki violin, viola and early childhood education teacher from Hillsboro, OR. Christine is passionate about helping her students develop their skills to the best of their ability, while developing a lifelong love of music. She is also passionate about helping parents & caregivers work with their children with less conflict, and more positive results.
Christine started violin studies at the age of 2 1/2, as a Suzuki student herself, and added the Viola in high school & college. She has a 4 year degree in Early Childhood Education and extensive teacher training through the SAA, including long term teacher training with Martha Shackford. She has also completed training with: Ellie Albers LeRoux, Susan Kempter, Yuko Honda, Sue Baer and Sharon Jones. Christine has been teaching for over 20 years, and spent a decade teaching at the Valley Catholic Music School in Beaverton, OR. There her students were consistently awarded scholarships in the school’s scholarship competition and top marks in the OMEA Solo & Ensemble competition.
Christine recently completed training as a facilitator for Circle of Security Parenting where she received training about fostering secure relationships between caregivers and their children, which has greatly informed her recent work. Christine is currently serving on the board of the Oregon Suzuki Association and co-director of the Oregon Suzuki Institute. She helped the SAA to launch Parents as Partners Online 2020 & 2021. She has a passion for parent education, lifelong learning & building community.
Christine is a frequent speaker having presented at the SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas) conference, International Research Symposium on Talent Education (IRSTE) & the ASTA (American String Teachers Association) National Convention in addition to many workshops and other events. She has had articles published in the American Suzuki Journal and is the author of the Suzuki licensed book Beyond the Music Lesson: Habits of Successful Suzuki Families, as well as a workbook for parents titled Positive Practice: 5 Steps to Helping Your Child Develop a Love of Music. Her third book is scheduled to be published in 2022. She has produced and hosted the Beyond the Music Lesson Podcast and her newest podcast Time to Practice and blogs at www.ChristineGoodner.com.
